Equipment

People often ask me “what kind of equipment do you use to work?”, so this section may not contain much useful information for most people – or might be downright boring. However, if you actually are interested in my stuff, here you go:

As a programmer I do not need too much computing power. However, when it comes to photoshop editing, video editing and a couple of other activities, a decent amount of RAM and CPU power is definitely helpful.
As this is my primary working machine, I need to have constant backups and lots of storage for achiving files.

Type Mac Pro (2013)
CPU Intel Xeon 6x 3,5 GHz
RAM 64 GB DDR3
GPU 2x AMD D300 (2GB)
HDD 1 TB SSD
2 TB TimeMachine Backup
Synology DS1812+ (20 TB in RAID 6)

Headphone Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro (250 Ohm)

In terms of software I am using a Mac (running macOS Sierra), but also rely on open source software wherever possible.

MacBook ProTop

As I have been travelling more regularly during the past few years, I had to purchase a more mobile workstation. Ever since switching to a Mac, it was pretty much out of the question to buy a Windows machine, so I went ahead and purchased a MacBook Pro to keep the workflow consistent and the files in sync.

CPU Intel Core i5-5257U 2.7 GHz
RAM 16 GB DDR3
HDD 512 GB SSD
1x 1 TB Intenso HDD (Backup)
Screen Retina 13″ @ 2560×1600
Model Early 2015

Camera

In the past I've been shooting with a Sony HX5V - which was an excellent camera and accompanied me on all of my travels. In late 2012 however, I decided that I wanted to take photography more serious, so I purchased a Lumix FZ200. Later on I switched to the excellent Canon 5D Mark III with 24-105mm f4, 70-200mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.4. However, as of 2 years ago, I decided to go an entirely different route and switch to MFT (Micro Four Thirds), having had no regrets so far.

Home Cinema

My home cinema system has been put together over the course of more than a year. I focused on building a high quality sound system for superb stereo playback in mind, but then gradually expanded it into a full 5.0 system (a subwoofer is not needed at all, the front speakers have a 12" bass speaker each), got a large screen (with much resistance on my wife's side) and put together an amazing home cinema system.
Projector Panasonic AT6000 (1080P, 3D, Lens-Shift, motorized zoom)
Projection size 115" (16:9)
130" (Cinemascope)
Blu-Ray Players Samsung BD-P1500

Receiver Denon AVR 2311
Front speakers Infinity Kappa 8.2i
Center speaker Infinity Beta C360
Rear speakers Infinity Kappa 6.1i
Remote Logitech Harmony 600

My drums

My drumset is probably a bit unusual. It is an electronic drumset, which you don't encounter all the time. Just like my PC it has evolved into its current form for a couple of years (since about 2006). I'm using this for rehearsals with my band, on gigs most of the time an acoustic drumset is provided already, so I don't play this drumset during gigs very often. Let's get down to the specifications:
Drum module Roland TD-20
Hi-Hat Roland VH-12
Snare 12" Dual-Trigger DIY Shell (with Positional Sensing)
Mounted toms 10" Mono-Trigger DIY Shell
Floor tom 12" Mono-Trigger DIY Shell
Bass Drum Modified 8" E-Kick
Crash cymbals 2x Roland CY-8
Ride cymbal 1x Roland CY-8
China cymbal 1x Roland CY-8
Monitor 1"/12" Speaker powered by an IMG STA-500 amplifier
